Frequently Asked Questions

Everything drivers and riders ask us about how HUM works, what's covered, and how to get started. Can't find your answer? Talk to us.

For Drivers

What is HUM, in one sentence?

HUM is a private driving app that lets professional drivers offer insured private rides, set their own rates, and keep every dollar they charge, for a flat monthly subscription instead of a per-ride commission.

Do I really keep everything I charge?

Yes. You set your own rate, and after you subscribe, every fare and every tip goes straight to you. HUM never takes a commission. Your only cost is a flat monthly subscription based on your vehicle type. See the plans on our Start Driving page.

Do I need commercial insurance to drive on HUM?

Not your own. HUM is a registered Transportation Network Company (TNC), the same legal framework Uber and Lyft operate under. Your personal auto policy covers you when you're off the clock. The moment you log a ride in the HUM app, HUM's commercial TNC policy covers you for that trip, the same way Uber and Lyft maintain coverage for their drivers. For questions about your own personal policy, talk to your insurer. See full coverage details.

How is this different from doing off-app rides on my own?

The moment a rider pays you off-app, your personal auto policy treats you as uninsured. That exclusion is standard in nearly every personal policy, and in many places off-app rides also break local for-hire rules. HUM closes both gaps: log the ride in the app and you're insured and compliant. You get the upside of private rides without putting your personal coverage at risk. Read more on coverage.

Can I keep driving for Uber and Lyft?

Of course. You can keep driving for Uber and Lyft as much as you want. HUM only runs when you have a private ride, so it fits alongside whatever else you're already doing. Nothing has to change to get started.

How do I get paid?

Your riders pay you directly: cash, card, Venmo, however you agree. Coverage doesn't depend on how you collect. It depends on the ride being logged in the app.

What does HUM cost?

A flat monthly subscription based on your vehicle type. No contracts, no commissions, cancel anytime, and every plan includes Ride Assurance coverage on every trip. You can see the plans for your vehicle on our Start Driving page.

How much can I actually earn?

HUM drivers average $51 per private ride, and many cut their driving hours roughly in half while holding the same income. Some have brought in $6,000 in as few as 100 trips. Your results depend on how you build your client base. See how it works.

What kind of car do I need?

Most standard four-door sedans, SUVs, and luxury vehicles qualify. Not sure about yours? Ask us.

Is HUM available in my city?

If your state is one of the six we're live in, then yes. HUM is available statewide, in every city and town, not just the major metros. So if you're anywhere in California, Arizona, Idaho, Florida, Tennessee, or Georgia, you're covered.

What if HUM isn't in my state yet?

For Riders

What is HUM for riders?

HUM connects you with professional, background-checked drivers you can actually keep. Find a driver you like, and you can ride with the same drivers regularly instead of getting a stranger every time.

Is every ride insured?

Yes. Every trip completed in the HUM app is covered under HUM's TNC registration, and every driver is background-checked before their first ride.

How much does a ride cost?

Your driver sets a flat rate based on distance, vehicle type, and market. No surge pricing, and you see the full fare before you confirm.

Can I request the same driver again?

Yes, and most riders do. Once you find a driver you click with, you can arrange rides with them directly. Just text them to set up your next trip or a regular schedule. That's the whole point of HUM: the same trusted drivers, not a different stranger every time.
